Trip Overview

Ghanpokhara and Ghalegaun, renowned for their village tourism activities in Nepal, also boast another captivating attraction: Wild Honey Hunting.

Nestled amidst tall hills and cliffs, Ghanpokhara and Ghalegaun are natural habitats for a diverse array of wild bees. Flourishing amidst the abundance of wildflowers and lush vegetation, these bees construct massive honeycombs that hang from the cliffs, creating a mesmerizing sight.

Over generations, the indigenous Gurung community has honed their skills in the art of honey hunting in these cliffs. Wild honey holds a significant place in their diet and is integral to many traditional and social festivities.

Honey hunting expeditions are meticulously planned each year by local elders, with dates determined based on astrological calendars. The entire village gathers in a festive atmosphere as honey hunters embark on their daring ascent up the cliffs, utilizing bamboo poles and traditionally woven ropes.

Tourists have the unique opportunity to witness the thrilling spectacle of honey hunters showcasing their acrobatic skills and daring feats as they collect honey. Savor the rare Himalayan honey straight from the honeycomb and immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of local festivals, offering insights into Gurung culture and traditions.

Honey hunting activities typically occur during the Spring or Autumn seasons. Advance booking is recommended to secure your place, with accommodation options including lodges and homestays available in the honey hunting areas.
